I first went to Canada in 1986 with the Cool Papa Oakland Blues Revue.  Cool Papa (Haskell Sadler) was a wonderful guitar player, singer, and songwriter who was a father figure to many of the younger blues players in the Bay Area like myself.  The band also featured Mississippi born pianist and sweetheart of the blues, Beverly Stovall.  We went to Alberta, Canada and performed in Edmonton, Banf, and Calgary, where we played for two weeks at the famous King Edward Hotel.  In 1999 and 2000, I returned to Canada with the Sonny Rhodes Blues Band, going coast to coast from Prince Edward Island, Vancouver, Whistler, Kelowna to Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, and the province of Ontario.  Canada is a wonderful place.  The people are very friendly, love music, and are very enthusiastic.  I look forward to more visits to Canada, to explore the jazz scene as well as re-visit blues clubs and spend time with some of my old blues friends.
